Resultados principales
- 16.800 niños con malnutrición severa han recibido tratamiento; la gestión comunitaria de la malnutrición aguda severa se ha extendido a 376 puestos de atención sanitaria.
- La proporción de programas de alimentación terapéutica en centros de salud se ha incrementado del 31% al 98%; se ha impartido formación a 142 trabajadores sanitarios y 512 trabajadores de extensión sanitaria en el tratamiento de la malnutrición aguda severa.
- Cada mes se pesa a 29.500 niños de menos de dos años y se asesora a las madres y las cuidadoras para mejorar las prácticas de alimentación de niños pequeños y lactantes. Se ha producido una disminución prometedora del infrapeso en los niños de menos de dos años.

While there have been improvement in the indicators of malnutrition among children under 5 in Ethiopia, it has to improve the rate of progress to achieve the target 2 of MDG 1 The government developed a National Nutrition Strategy and National Nutrition Programme to address malnutrition in a comprehensive and harmonized manner and they form the framework for the development and implementation of the activities of NNP/MDG-F Joint Programme.
The Joint Programme has 4 components: 1) Rollout and sustainability of Out Patient Treatment services for severe acute malnutrition at community level; 2) Community Based Nutrition interventions; 3) Pilot/operational research on local production and utilization of complementary food; and 4) Strengthening the nutrition information system and M&E mechanism. It will use the existing decentralized service delivery structure and the multi-sectoral coordination mechanisms at the federal, regional, woreda and kebele levels established by the NNP.
