Joint Programme supports National Craft Fair and Training of Exhibitors

The 11th edition of the National Craft Fair took place in the fort of the City of Maputo from the 19th to the 28th of November 2010. A total of 3,309 visitors, of which 2,291 were foreigners and 1,018 nationals, were responsible for sales totaling $42,457. This incarnation of the fair featured artisans from various districts of nine provinces in Mozambique, displaying handicrafts produced from a variety of materials; from hardwood and ‘white’ wood, coconut shell, horn, straw, precious and semi-precious stones, silver, recycled materials and many more that using different techniques were transformed into various categories of decorative and functional items.


The fair was supported by the Joint Programme for Strengthening the Cultural and Creative Industries and Inclusive Policies in Mozambique, implemented jointly with the Government of Mozambique and funded by the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund. Fifteen of the artisan-exhibitors at the fair attended a pre-fair training by IYES(Improve Your Exhibition Skills), a methodology of the ILO implemented by CEDARTE with support from the MDG-F and institutional support from IPEME (Institute for Promotion of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises).
