Digital production center for Costa Rican youth opens with MDG-F backing

Youth from at-risk communities of Costa Rica's capital will soon be able to receiving in animation, graphic design and production, following the launch this week of the MDG-F-supported Center for Technology and Arts (CETAV).


CETAV, part of the cultural complex Parque Metropolitano La Libertad, aims to train and educate high school graduates and college students over 17 years of age in the areas of 2D-3D animation and audiovisual production and postproduction. The objective is to contribute to the training of young people in areas that would benefit not only themselves but society in general.


"This represents a hope for thousands of young Costa Rican who need an opportunity (...), for these young people who deserve these opportunities, the youth of a country that exchanged weapons for books," noted Mark Fernandez, president of the Parque La Libertad Foundation. The courses will be offered at low or no cost.


José Antonio González, Senior Advisor to the MDG-F, said the project would contribute to reducing poverty: "Culture is a direct element of income generation, an element of access to knowledge, and it is therefore an element of the struggle against social exclusion. No one can or should remain on the edge of poverty because of a lack of access to goods and services."
