The security situation in Costa Rica has worsened in recent years due to drug trafficking and common crime. Though still below other countries in Central and South America, the level of violence has begun to impact the country's social fabric. This Joint programme aimed at improving security in nine of Costa Rica's least safe cantons by simultaneously reducing levels of fear and violence.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) hopes to bring potable water to poor communities in 36 municipalities in the country. Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno said that the program, which is under the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Achievement Fund, aims to provide safe and potable drinking water to residents of remote barangays, particularly, the poor communities.

Twenty-eight young women and men from all parts of Costa Rica recently learned how to produce their own radio messages on preventing violence, through a training programme organized through the MDG- Fund (MDG-F) programme on Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding called “Networks for Coexistence, Communities without Fear”

January, 2010- Ethiopia concluded a one and a half day national inception workshop by launching a joint program on children, food security and nutrition by Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Federal Ministry of Health, the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, UNICEF, WFP, WHO and FAO with a generous contribution of 7 million USD received from the Spanish government.
