Community tourism

The MDG-F is working with residents of indigenous communities to promote cultural tourism in the northeastern province of Sucumbios, Ecuador. These three young people received training and support to turn their home into a tourist center, taking advantage of the cultural and natural resources of the area.

"We are refining our services, accommodations and food, as well as information to improve our website,” says Wilmer Piaguaje, a resident of Succumbios responsible for strengthening the community’s tourist centers. “Now we need to move forward on marketing and improving our cultural offerings, such as dances and storytelling. We won’t be including access to shamans, though, because this is something that is very personal to our culture.”
