Supporting Colombia's native people

In Colombia’s Chocó region, where the majority of the population is indigenous or Afro-descendant, nearly 80% of people live below the poverty line and more than 40% of women have suffered physical violence; life expectancy here is 12 years less than the national average and infants die at twice the rate elsewhere in the country. The MDG-F has funded four programmes  in Colombia that are improving life for indigenous communities, involving native people in initiatives that are strengthening environmental stewardship, boosting nutrition and food security, empowering women and building peace in a region with a high prevalence of violence and a concentration of illicit crops.
