A Timbila player in action

The Mozambique tradition of playing the Timbila, a set of xylophone-like instruments, is under threat as deforestation and the clearing of trees to make way for cash crops is eliminating the Mwendje tree, from which Timbilas are made. The MDG-F is helping to safeguard the Timbila tradition by establishing community tree nurseries and involving musicians and instrument-makers in repropagating the Mwendje specie.
